What’s on my mind? Facebook asked me. Well, how to tell people about the Torbay Open Poetry Competition and its prizes. I dislike using extravagant words and OTT phrases. Yet the prizes are worth winning: first prize: £700 PLUS a free ticket to everything at this year’s Festival, including accommodation, bringing the value of the prize to well over £1,000; second prize: £500 plus a free Festival Pass, again bring the prize to over £750. Last but not least a 3rd prize of £250 plus two tickets for the Festival supper worth £60. Then there are several runners-up prizes of free subscriptions to Acumen Literary Journal. And all short-listed poets having the chance to read their poem during the Festival. Also the short-listed poems will be on display at the Festival venue so all visitors and friends can read and think about them rather than just hearing them once. Our judge this year is SUE BOYLE who runs the PoetryCafe Competition in Bath, was the winner of the Poetry Business pamphlet competition and has had her moving poetic sequence ‘Report from the Judenplatz’ performed at many venues.
